It feels painfully obvious that the recent rash of anti-transgender laws, bills, and executive actions in the United States are harmful to the mental health of all transgender people. None more so than transgender youth, it seems.
News today from the CDC, via Erin Reed, confirms what common sense tells us.
According to a new study released Tuesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in four transgender youth attempted suicide in the past year. Of those, 10% required medical treatment following the attempt.
This is why I say that Republicans have blood on their hands. They are the ones pushing these hateful, bigoted policies. Republican controlled (so-called Red) states are where these laws bloom. I’ve written before about the recent anti-trans actions by Texas AG Ken Paxton. He doesn’t stand alone.
Imagine seeing these kinds of laws targeting your identity. Male, female, black, white, Asian. How would you feel? Hopeless maybe? This hopelessness leads to suicidality, particularly among youth. Trans people are a small minority, and we cannot change society alone.
We need cis allies to speak up for us. Vote to remove the bigots from positions of power. The biggest thing you can possibly do right now is to vote. Vote for Democrats. Because, no, they aren’t perfect, and no one is. But they are a darn sight better than the alternative.
The journey continues. I certainly would like to have your help.
As you say, it’s not surprising. And if these people had an ounce of decency they would renounce their anti-trans ways upon reading things like this. But many of them want this. Erasure. I vote blue.

I appreciate you and your voice, too, Janet! I’ve reblogged this, but set it up for the morning. I know I read later at night, but it seems many WordPress readers read earlier in the day, and I don’t want this to get lost. Thank you so much for what you do!
