Mostly uneventful. Discussed the side effects I’ve been experiencing from Keppra. He offered a few alternative choices. I’m to review them and their potential side effects. If I decide to change, I can let him know and we’ll go forward from there. I’ll probably do that over the weekend.

9 FebI had two appointments scheduled for yesterday. The first of those was an initial consult with a doctor in the Grady Hospital Gender Center. Basically, he’s a specialist in transgender internal medicine.

6 FebToday, someone I’ve known for maybe a dozen years, who recently came to modern Paganism, referred to me, unironically, as a “respected elder”. I truly never believed I’d hear anything like that again.

Transgender Day of Remembrance
21 NovLast night, I attended the Houston Transgender Day of Remembrance ceremony on the campus of the University of Houston. I had the good fortune of being in the right place at the right time, and ended up attending with Vanity Wilde and some of her friends. If I hadn’t gone with them, I probably wouldn’t have been able to attend. Read elsewhere about my ongoing medical issues. That’s not what this post is about. Continue reading

This is a very good development. Now if only Texas weren’t so backwards …
Discrimination is NOT necessary
26 AprEDITORIAL: Discrimination is necessary – Washington Times
First-graders should not be forced into the classrooms of teachers undergoing sex changes. Religious broadcasters and faith-based summer camps should not be forced to hire cross-dressers. Women should not be forced to share bathrooms with people with male body parts who say they want to be females. Yet those are some of the likely results if Congress passes H.R. 3017, the so-called Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which is due for a vote this week by the House Education and Labor Committee.
Wow. That is the most ill-informed, bigoted, nasty paragraph I have read today. I note with particular interest that the target of the bigotry in this ill-conceived editorial is exclusively transgender people. Apparently gays and lesbians are no longer frightening enough for the Washington Times.
Let’s leave aside the fact that the APA is currently revising the DSM, and may change the definition of Gender Identity Disorder (GID). Should we also discriminate against bi-polar disorder patients who are receiving treatment, and prevent them from teaching our children? After all, their disorder is also listed in the DSM. What about people with depression? Should they use a different bathroom? Oh, I know what you are going to say. Those disorders pose no risk. Really? Ever heard of Columbine? Risk is a part of life. Strange synchronicity [Transgender]
25 JanToday, my first-born child came out as a transgender woman (on Facebook, as Melody Jade) in Houston on the same day as the vigil. (http://bit.ly/5A0fKw) Jade didn’t know about me.
I had told Laura, who I see fairly regularly, and I did not tell Laura she could not tell Jade. When they were growing up, I was presenting male entirely. Their mother knew I sometimes cross-dressed, and had apparently guessed I might be transgender.
Jade was worried that I would freak out. Instead, I provided resource information to get her started on her transition. I know Houston relatively well, and had been doing research for my own benefit.
Wow.
