End the lies, take action
14 MayFrom EndTheLies.org:
Have you noticed that these days, since it’s no longer acceptable to say openly that you’re against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality, extremists are resorting to lies and fear tactics?
The radical right says hate crimes laws will “silence people of faith” and put pastors in jail. Newt Gingrich warned on Fox News that a “gay and secular fascism in this country that wants to impose its will on the rest of us, is prepared to use violence…” Pat Boone called pro-equality protesters “sexual jihadists” similar to terrorists. They’ve taken out full-page ads in national papers and blanketed the talk shows.
We can’t let these lies go unanswered, especially now that we have a chance to make real progress on LGBT equality.
EndTheLies.org is a new website showing some of the worst offenders.
I just signed their petition to stand up for truth and equality. Will you take a moment and join me?
[TG] Out and about, or “I did it!”
29 Aprlasarina and Jesse took me out shopping last night. We started out at Willowbrook Mall. We didn’t buy anything other than some sugar wax from The Body Shop, but we had a lot of fun browsing Lane Bryant, and Macy’s shoe department. Macy’s had some of the most kick-a** heels on clearance. lasarina found several pair she absolutely loved. Of course, even at clearance prices, we really couldn’t afford them. lasarina dared me to try on this one pair of bright red 4 1/2″ heels (yes, they had shoes in my size), expecting me to have trouble in them. I looked like I had worn them my whole life. 🙂

13 MarI am finally able to admit to myself that I am transgendered. I am slowly coming out to various very close friends about my status. So far, those I have told have been quite supportive, with one particular exception, who shall remain nameless. lasarina has been my most ardent supporter, and I am incredibly grateful that I have her in my life.
I will not come out to some people, though I am choosing to live primarily as Janet Anne. If you can see this, you already know all of what I just wrote. What you may not know is who else does. Unless you have been told otherwise, assume that no one else knows. I will, in my own time, slowly become more open about this.
This was not an easy thing for me to admit, even to myself. It has taken many years of self examination, and frequently self-denial, for me to come to this point. From my earliest memories of recognizing the differences between girls and boys, and most especially from puberty, I felt like I was “wrong” somehow.
I believe that you each know that gender and sexual orientation are not determinate one of the other. Suffice it to say that this announcement doesn’t imply in any way that my relationship with lasarina is changing, except to become stronger. She has been my rock through this latest phase of my development.
ETA: I have a Twitter account for Janet Anne here.
I’m impressed by the argument
6 NovLegal Groups File Lawsuit Challenging Proposition 8, Should It Pass
The American Civil Liberties Union, Lambda Legal and the National Center for Lesbian Rights filed a writ petition before the California Supreme Court today urging the court to invalidate Proposition 8 if it passes. The petition charges that Proposition 8 is invalid because the initiative process was improperly used in an attempt to undo the constitution’s core commitment to equality for everyone by eliminating a fundamental right from just one group – lesbian and gay Californians. Proposition 8 also improperly attempts to prevent the courts from exercising their essential constitutional role of protecting the equal protection rights of minorities. According to the California Constitution, such radical changes to the organizing principles of state government cannot be made by simple majority vote through the initiative process, but instead must, at a minimum, go through the state legislature first.
I’m afraid to be hopeful, though. Still, it’s an interesting and impressive argument. Click the link above to read the full press release, or see the writ petition here.
