An Aging Trans Woman 
Hi. A very heartfelt post. And I feel his pain and fear because I have it also for my self and my husband, the first openly gay couple in our mobile home park in Florida. Yes at first we faced pushback and hate from a few older people but surprisingly the other members of the park came to our defense, made friends with us. Then we move forward to when the maga moved in.
I was shocked and surprised after hurricane Ian the maga leader from NY made a point to reach out to us. He invited us into his home. He made it clear to those that came to his home that we were not to be harassed and were welcome. I was shocked. This man had a “let’s go Brandon” flag. So I guess it is hard to tell how people think. Recently this man and his wife invited us into their home and helped us with some issues we were having with our own home modifications.
When he talks about conversion therapy for trans youth it reminded me of the time in the 1970s / 1980s I was a gay kid growing up with adults listening to Anita Bryant and her spewing hate claiming gay men were targeting young boys. I was a young boy. I knew I was not like the people she described, but I really wanted to meet them. I couldn’t come out to my friends or others at school, where were all these gay teachers wanting to molest me? They did not exist, they were the imaginations of hate.
Just like what haters say about trans kids and people today. They are afraid that trans people / kids will be accepted in violation of what they feel is the correct natural order, which they back up with a tome written 2,500 years ago ignoring all modern science. Because people that did not even understand washing their hands before eating and thought slavery was ok morally, would have the finial say on all future medical understanding and science. `I do hope they have the conviction of their faith to ignore heart saving surgery or other modern medical achievements.
Sorry I just realized I was going on a screed to protect a class of people I don’t know but greatly respect. The current advancements in every gain for the LGBTQ+ wouldn’t have been possible without the full on leadership and actions of the trans community. I am a gay guy legally married to my husband thankful to those trans people who had enough and showed a barroom of LGBTQ+ people how to fight back. Great post. Hugs
