Recently, I ordered two handmade ring sets from a seller on Amazon. Yes, wedding ring sets. They are lovely, and Jenni and I were greatly looking forward to their arrival around the end of the month. Yesterday, the trade war with China appears to have significantly affected my hopes of receiving those rings. EDIT: This is changing even as I was writing this post. The chaos appears to be the point.
Because of the tariffs and other negative actions taken by the President with respect to China, there is a good chance that those rings will either not arrive, or end up costing additional shipping fees and delays. The Postal Service announced it would “temporarily” no longer accept incoming packages from China and Hong Kong.
Effective Feb. 4, the Postal Service will temporarily suspend only international package acceptance of inbound parcels from China and Hong Kong Posts until further notice. Note the flow of letters and flats from China and Hong Kong will not be impacted. – Source
The rings are, of course, coming from China. They would almost certainly have arrived via USPS under the normal course of events. I’ve reached out to the seller to ask if they will be able to fulfill the order I placed and have already paid for. I ordered a set for each of us from this company, before this trade war broke out. I anticipated the tariffs, and ordered before the tariffs took effect. I did not anticipate that USPS would decide to no longer accept packages from China.
I suppose my loyal readers would like to see the rings that Jenni and I will wear if we can actually get them. We fell in love with them. They are sterling silver and very Pagan, with crescent moons on either side of the Alexandrite central stone. Alexandrite is most well known for it’s color changing property: “It can appear green under daylight or fluorescent lighting and transform into a purplish-red hue in incandescent light.” The matching band has smaller crescent moons connected by a handfasting cord. So without further ado, I present the rings themselves.
The journey continues. It might be a bit rocky going forward. Political nonsense from a truly foolish autocrat keeps getting in the way.
Beautiful rings, Janet, and it sounds like they add to your happiness! This is good to read. Thanks!

(Well, the stumbling blocks aren’t good to read, of course! Only the good news.)

Sorry I’m late to the party. Missed this one. I don’t always get to read all the posts on the blogs I follow. Sometimes I miss some. I’m trying to be better about that.
But congrats and beautiful rings!! I can dig it. Did they arrive yet?

Not yet. But, according to the tracking, they have shipped. they are supposed to arrive between 25-Feb and 7-Mar. So basically, the week I am with Jenni in OK. They *might* arrive before I fly out for the visit. 🤞

Hopefully they arrive before leaving. That would be ideal.
