I went to urgent care this past Wednesday. I was not feeling well, and had been having symptoms I associated with a probable UTI. While I was there, I was asked if I would like to have a Covid and flu test. I agreed. No harm, right? Well, I didn’t have a UTI after all. Just the standard bladder stuff I was already dealing with. But there was news.
I tested positive for Covid. No one else in my household has tested positive so far. I’m isolating, masking, washing my hands regularly. I was vaccinated back in October. That was my fifth Covid vaccine. It’s a very mild case. So I am at no real risk. I’m far more concerned about not spreading it. I’ve had a bad case back in 2021. This is not that.
But telling my fiancée 1 Jenni that I had Covid was so very hard from 1100 miles away. Jenni is a Covid widow. Her wife passed away from Covid in the early days of the pandemic. It was gutting to hear that someone she loves had gotten that diagnosis. And it gutted me to deliver that news.
Jenni and I talk at length every day via video chat. She can see for herself that I am in no danger. And that’s helping. Still, it’s been a rough few days. I admit, I am not sleeping well. I’m still having to urinate very frequently and that disrupts sleep, a lot. I also wake up coughing in the middle of the night. I have OTC cough suppressant and it works.
Jenni and I are helping each other through this period. And we are planning a life together. Joyfully, the journey continues.
- Yes, I said fiancée. I am engaged to be married. That’s deserving of it’s own post. Give me a break. Did I mention I have Covid? I will go ahead and show you my ring though.

Congrats on the engagement! At this point with COVID, I think the best we can do is self isolate not rush into activity as we recover. Take care of yourself. Now you have more reason to than ever🙂

I tested negative at noon ET today. I’ll test again on Monday, to be certain. Until then, I’ll continue masking and isolation. Onward and upward!
