Today, Erin Reed shared her latest update to her map of anti-transgender risk. The map is well known among activists and transgender people. It shows risks both by state and at the national level. Overall, the news is absolutely not good.
That said, the news for me personally is better than I expected. The “battleground” state where I live went red in the latest election. She still ranks it as “Low risk within two years.” I’ll include that map here, but there’s lots more at her post. It is well worth a read. And no, I am still not going to say which specific state.
The national risk level for trans adults is overall high, for several reasons. The most obvious of those is the anti-transgender ads, and subsequent actions, of the Republican Party. The Congressional actions banning trans people, particularly Sarah McBride, from all Capitol Hill women’s bathrooms is just one prime example. Others include Trump’s nominations to his cabinet of renowned anti-trans persons such as Harmeet Dillon and Andrew Ferguson.
Of course, transgender kids have long been under attack, and the outlook there is not good at all. It seems likely that the Supreme Court will let stand the Tennessee ban on trans health care for minors.
The Supreme Court heard oral arguments Wednesday in United States v. Skrmetti, arguably the most important transgender rights case the Court has ever heard. The case asks whether discrimination against transgender people can violate the Constitution — and it appears most of the justices feel it does not. The likely result is that the Court will allow states to ban health procedures that enable gender-affirming care, both for minors and, potentially, adults.
On the other end of the spectrum, thanks to Scottie’s Playtime for this bit of news.
Incredible news! Montana’s Supreme Court just affirmed that the state’s gender affirming care ban is likely unconstitutional.
This makes the state the first state Supreme Court to rule that trans medical care is protected.
This applies REGARDLESS of what the US Supreme Court does.
The journey continues.
Yeah. It’s looking pretty grim out here. And dems need to get louder, in my opinion, and push back more. Nancy Mace is literally going around spewing trans slurs and there seems to be no pushback of note.

I am pleased to see AOC is vying for a top position in the dems. I hope the older and moderate dems don’t get in the way. Time to pass the torch.

Some of us in OK are ramping up efforts to defeat the anti-trans laws our idiot reps keep attempting to pass. So far we have kept the absolute worst laws from passing, but honestly it is becoming more difficult to keep them in check. I seriously fear for our future.

As do I. I have trans friends in Oklahoma who are extremely frightened and wishing they could leave the state yesterday. But as we often note, that simply isn’t an option for so many of my siblings. Moving and starting your life over in a new place requires significant financial resources that many don’t have.

a LOT of us are creating a fund for trans to “borrow from” so they can safely begin lives somewhere other than here. It is all under the table at this point…….think the underground railroad.

That’s a wonderful thing to hear. Perhaps someday I can connect my friend with that need to your effort.
