I am to check in to the day surgery center at 5 am on 31-Oct for my gender affirming surgery. Less than 36 hours now. I’m nervous, but mostly about recovery. I know I will likely have a slightly rougher recovery than most. My fibromyalgia always flares after any sort of physical trauma.
Even a minor surgery is trauma. Besides the standard recovery of protecting the surgical site while it heals, I will have the added impact of fibro. Of course, I knew this from the outset. I’ve lived with fibro for over 40 years. It’s one of the factors I weighed in my decision to do this.
Don’t get me wrong. I am beyond excited to be getting this. This is such a huge step for both my mental and physical health. I will be eliminating a source of dysphoria.
Additionally, after a period of recovery and adaptation to the physical change, I will stop taking a medication. I have taken this medication for more than 13 years. I took it to suppress testosterone, but it’s original purpose was as a diuretic. It is hard on my body at my age, and I will be happy to be rid of it.
The journey continues. Wish me luck, and a swift recovery, if you are so inclined.
yay 🥳
best of luck with everything and fingers crossed for an easy recovery xx

The best of luck! Do exactly what they say to do, but push them on what you’re allowed to do, within your limits, of course. You don’t want to endanger your recovery, but you also don’t want to waste any time. Experiencing the wholeness and the gratitude is magic. 🤗❤️

Sometimes ya just gotta breathe. And drink plenty of water.
I’m excited for you, too, with high hopes for a comfortable recovery.

Thank you! I definitely drink plenty of water. 104 ounces most days.

I think I remember you said that, one time back a month or so ago!

Probably. That diuretic is the reason my water intake is so high. I know I’ve discussed it with some folks online. I don’t doubt that you would have been one of them.

Nah, I think we were talking about fitness, or maybe recovery from a cold, or something like that. I don’t recall the diuretic. What a pleasure to give that up, I bet! It makes good sense that you’d be just thrilled about that.

My specific intake recommendation is 3 liters daily because of POTS. Maybe that? But the diuretic makes that rather miserable. 🚢

I hope to cut back to a somewhat lower intake level and still manage the POTS sans diuretic.

You know, I think that’s correct; I may have given yet another of my “stay hydrated” sign-offs, and you mentioned all that. POTS sounds familiar in regard to our conversations. I bet sometimes you wish you had a portable toilet!
