Today, some good news for transgender people comes from Erin Reed. On her Substack, she reported that Tim Walz sat down for an interview on the We Can Do Hard Things podcast. The interview covered various topics of interest to voters in the upcoming Presidential election.
Of particular interest to me was when the topic turned to LGBTQ+ rights, especially transgender healthcare. This quote from Erin’s post caught my attention.
Rather than shying away from the topic, Walz delivered a passionate, several-minute-long defense of LGBTQ+ rights, including transgender healthcare. He outlined his vision for the administration’s role in protecting these rights.
And indeed, based on the quotes and summary which Erin presents, she is not being hyperbolic. This was the clearest statement of full support for the queer community I have seen from the Harris/Walz campaign. He even took on the horrible anti-trans ads being run by the opposition. “They’re running millions of dollars of ads demonizing folks who are just trying to live their lives.” I encourage you to follow the link, and read her entire piece.
I’ll admit that I really hadn’t seen what I would consider an appropriate level of push back against that nonsense. This is deeply heartening to me. What Harris did in that recent Fox interview was certainly not negative. It should have been more positive. And I am glad to see Tim Walz make that shift. Thank you Governor Walz.
I have said it before, and I will likely say it again. If you care about civil rights, about democracy, and yes, about people like me, vote. Vote Blue all up and down the ticket. If Trump / Vance win on November 5, life is going to be a lot harder for all of us. Especially for queer and trans kids, and adults.
The journey continues. I see a light at the end of this election tunnel. Please do what you can to ensure that it isn’t a train. Thank you.
I’m not surprised given he signed legislation making Minnesota a sanctuary state for trans people. I’m also not surprised at Harris on Fox. She was thinking about who her audience. Better to be elected and then enact change than make an appeal to deaf ears and aid Trump. Pick when and where you want to fight your battles. If he wins, the country becomes Texas.

I can’t argue with any part of your logic. Thanks for the feedback Christina. 🫂
