I’m sure you’ve seen me hypothesize that the Christian Right wants to drive trans people out of the public sphere. That they would be happy if we didn’t exist. And maybe you thought it was hyperbole.
It’s not. At a recent conference 1 held in Lisbon, noted TERF Helen Joyce openly admitted that her goal is “abolition of the concept and practice of transition among adults.”
In the speech, Joyce lays out her motivations for a step by step campaign to radicalise [sic] society against transition, how to work around the empathy people have for trans people in society, and use existing concerns to lead them along a path to total exclusion.
I hope that anyone reading this understands something very important. These people view us as the weakest link in the LGBTQ coalition. Once they have eliminated us, they will come after the rest of the queer community.
It’s only a short step from there to immigrants and non-Christians. Name your minority of choice. If you aren’t cis, white, heterosexual, and Christian of the evangelical flavor, you are next.
They’ve already taken women’s right to bodily autonomy. And that’s ultimately what this attack on trans people boils down to as well. They want to control your body and your mind. Think Orwell’s 1984, or Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. If you don’t have bodily autonomy, you have no rights.
I know I keep saying this. I’m going to say it again. Vote. Vote Blue. If you care about this beautifully multi-cultural melting pot, vote. Vote as if your life depends on it. Because it just might. And if not yours, then your grandchild’s.
Yes, the journey continues, for now. Whether it will in 2025 depends on you making the right choice on 5-November. Choose wisely.
- Don’t get me started on the fact that such a thing as an “anti-trans conversion therapy lobbying group” even exists. ↩︎
our world is so f&cked up when no one group is safe from the religious fanatics, be they Christian, Muslim or anything else.

Exactly. There is no next. The rightwing has attacked all demographics of humanity except themselves, and occasionally, they go after their own, as well. If Joyce thinks she’s safe because she’s TERF, she’s very mistaken.

There are w-a-y more important things to worry about than trans people. Climate change, more frequent pandemics, wealth inequality, homelessness.
I truly don’t understand the threat. No one is coming to make them transition or make them leave their partner for a trans person.

The men fear they might be attracted to us. And of course that would make them gay. The women? Some truly believe we are dangerous. But ultimately, we represent an existential threat to a way of life that is very important to them all. If they accept us, then they must accept change. And that’s what they fear most. Maybe?

I know you’re right, I just don’t get the fear. Maybe because of life experience and age.

Although being White, Male, cisgender and a UK National Resident I can understand and support your concerns. For these pressures you face are indicative of a reactionary mindset across the world of which the US Republican Party’s ‘activists’ are but one part.
They and their ‘cousins’ across the world would shut down many a rational cause for concern.
We need only look to
‘First They Came’ by Pastor Martin Niemoller
As a reminder of what they their ultimate intentions would be.
They need to be met and confronted on many a front, if this world is to not just prosper but survive.
Take care.

Thank you Roger. And as it happens, Ms. Joyce is a UK resident. I chose her precisely because she is indicative of a world wide problem. Yes, the urgency in the current moment is here in the US. You are absolutely correct that this must be faced by all freedom loving people around the world.
Blessings.

It seems Humanity is slipping back into the mindsets of the late 1920s, early 1930s in which state communism, fascism and intolerance were being lauded.

I have, on more than occasion, referenced 1933 Germany in comparison to the current USA. Yes, there is a strong parallel. “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” – George Santayana

Throughout Humanity’s History stretching back into the thousands of years there is a fearfully depressing consistency in applications of Ignorance and Violence (be the latter either physical or mental or emotional).
Sometimes taking the form of a stumbling category of errors through ambition, pride or fear.
Other times a wilful embrace of these flaws as the easiest route.
It would be easy to blame those in authority be they rulers, governors, generals or religious leaders, and yet all too often the cause can also be seen originating at other strata of societies; calling them grass roots if you like.
At either end you will find in the annals of accounts justifications or analysis. And yet these fall down in the sight of evidence of the Violence visited upon the vulnerable and the innocent bystanders, often used as useful targets.
Since the parties are never dealing in isolation there are always reactions and then counter-reactions leading to ruin and suffering.
We are a flawed species. We have the gifts of application, we have the gifts of constructive thought and yet are still but a step back from the most base and nihilistic aspects of our natures.

Hi. Janet I left TYT when Anna tried to claim including trans people on medical forms was an insult to women like her and Cenk keep pushing for the LGB to drop the t as trans issues were dragging us down, even though every politician that ran on such issues lost their elections.
The fact is if you read 2025 you see that the entire goal is a white supremacy straight cis Christian society where everyone is forced to follow that mold. Everyone will be required to follow Christian doctrine, follow Sunday blue laws, and the goal is to force church participation at least 3 times a month. Every thing in your post is correct. But the thing most like the 1930s Germany is the right / maga / Christian Nationalist is they are willing to use gang thug force to get their way despite laws or rights of the people they attack. Very scary. Hugs.

Interesting. I did not know that about TYT. That’s sad. And yeah, you are spot on about P2025 and the MAGA goals. Hugs, and thanks.

It’s actually quite amazing reading this now, six months later, because, yes – they’re not just going after trans people, but actual US citizens, making sure that anyone is deported without due process, to ensure that they are unable to put up a fight.

🤷♀️ I have often suggested a parallel between myself and Cassandra. This is another such occasion.

Yeah, it’s pretty crazy the number that said it would be like 1930s Germany, at the start of the Nazi revolution, and… Yeah, no one really thought it would be *this* bad.
