I made an appointment this morning and went in to Urgent Care. The cough had progressed from bad to worse.
I was diagnosed with a lower respiratory infection. It was probably triggered by allergies (hay fever). I have an inhaler in case I start having issues with wheezing. The doctor did hear a wheeze, but only during a coughing episode. I also have a Z-Pak and a round of prednisone. I’m to continue the use of Flonase and Robitussin as needed. I will start Claritin tomorrow for the allergies. I should probably have started that a couple of weeks ago, if I’m honest with myself.
To be blunt, I haven’t been sleeping well since this cough started. I’m exhausted, and have drifted off back to sleep at least three times today. I’m hopeful that the medicines will begin to improve my condition in the next few days.
I was talked into going in this morning as my housemates were concerned since it was clearly getting worse, not better. I had been very careful to isolate and mask, just in case this was something communicable. It’s strange, and wonderful, to be living with people who actually care after all I’ve been through in the last decade or so.
The journey continues.
Glad you got it figured out and props to your housemates for caring.

Thanks Nat. Yeah, like I said, that’s taking some getting used to, but it’s a great change.
Oh, and really likely the infection was actually hospital acquired. My PCP felt that was likely when I had my post-surgical incision check.
