Muslim man spends five years in jail for not being a terrorist

Excerpt:

. . . The veiled accusations and vehement denials would continue for nearly five years — despite official findings in 2001 that he had no terrorist links and in 2003 that authorities had violated his rights by colluding to keep him in custody. . . .

Take this as an object lesson. This government can and will “disappear” people for no valid reason. Next time it could be you or me. Niemöller

The RNC should withdraw support for Sen. Allen

17 Aug

From MoveOn.Org:

At a campaign stop Virginia senator George Allen singled out the only non-white member of the audience–S.R. Sidarth, a young Indian-American volunteering for his opponent–and called him a “macaque” (a racial slur meaning ‘monkey’). He went on to say, “welcome to America,” when in fact, Mr. Sidarth was born and raised in Virginia.

Bigotry has no place in our democracy. The Republican National Committee should withdraw support from Sen. Allen for his behavior.

Republicans have used racism to try to win over voters for decades, but this kind of pandering has absolutely no place in our politics. That’s why we’re standing with Color of Change to ask the Republican National Committee to withdraw support from Sen. Allen. We need to send a strong message that America won’t tolerate bigotry.

U.S. Federal Judge Rules Warrantless Wiretapping Unconstitutional

A federal judge ruled Thursday that the government’s warrantless wiretapping program is unconstitutional and ordered an immediate halt to it.

U.S. District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor in Detroit became the first judge to strike down the National Security Agency’s program, which she says violates the rights to free speech and privacy as well as the separation of powers enshrined in the Constitution.

“Plaintiffs have prevailed, and the public interest is clear, in this matter. It is the upholding of our Constitution,” Taylor wrote in her 43-page opinion.

“Wait, Aren’t You Scared?”

As a matter of fact, I am not. I will not let the terrorists win. (In this context, terrorist refers to Bush, Cheney, and their minions.)

The UK Terror plot: what’s really going on?
Craig Murray
Writer and broadcaster

As Britain’s outspoken Ambassador to the Central Asian Republic of Uzbekistan, Craig Murray helped expose vicious human rights abuses by the US-funded regime of Islam Karimov. He is now a prominent critic of Western policy in the region.

I have been reading very carefully through all the Sunday newspapers to try and analyse the truth from all the scores of pages claiming to detail the so-called bomb plot. Unlike the great herd of so-called security experts doing the media analysis, I have the advantage of having had the very highest security clearances myself, having done a huge amount of professional intelligence analysis, and having been inside the spin machine.
