Talking T-shirts

So lasarina‘s post over in , and one of the comments therein, got me to thinking about these types of t-shirts, and people’s reactions to them. I am often taken aback at those reactions. You see, I wear almost exclusively t-shirts with commentary of some sort. Sometimes they are geeky (I love ThinkGeek.Com) and many are political (InstantAttitudes.Com, NorthernSun.Com, etc.)

Pushing Back on Detainee Law

It was a rough week in Washington for the law last week. As president of the Center for Constitutional Rights, I spent much of the week fighting against the passage of the Military Commission Act, which stripped the fundamental right of habeas corpus from noncitizens. Because so much of the debate was focused on prisoners held at Guantánamo, the new bill’s full impact was poorly understood. But our loss in Congress last week has consequences for citizens, as well as for legal permanent residents (green card holders) and noncitizens anywhere–and consequences for the rule of law in this country.

Robert Scheer: Rice More Sordid Than Foley

They are such liars. And no, I am not speaking only of the dissembling GOP House leaders led by Speaker Dennis Hastert who, out of naked political calculation, covered up for one of their own in the sordid teen stalking case of Rep. Mark Foley.

Call me old school, but I am still more concerned with the Republicans molesting Lady Liberty while pretending to be guarding the nation’s security, an assignment which they have totally botched. The news about the Foley coverup, while important as yet another example of extreme hypocrisy on the part of the Republican virtues police, should not be allowed to obscure the latest evidence of administration deceit as to its egregious ineptness in protecting the nation.
