Gay Couples Married in Massachusetts

Gay Couples Wed Legally in U.S. Milestone

Today, May 17 2004, will be forever remembered as the day our country took an enormous step forward in our journey towards true equality. Please take a moment on this historic occasion to congratulate all couples marrying in Massachusetts today, and honor GLAD for making it happen.

I don’t know whether to be comforted by this or not.

From the ACLU – Urge President Bush to Reform American Detention Policies

14 May

Recent news headlines have offered a deeply disturbing view of the U.S. government’s system of detentions and interrogations in Iraq. Although much of the outrage has focused on actions taken by individual soldiers, officers at high levels authorized policies that may violate the Geneva Conventions and plainly played a role in encouraging the even-more serious abuses depicted in the photographs.

These recent events also highlight deliberate efforts, approved by the Attorney General, the White House counsel and in some cases by President Bush himself, designed to shield treatment of detainees from the safeguards provided by international law, including the Geneva Conventions, and from any scrutiny by United States or other courts.

These actions appear to meet the definition of torture under both international law and the United States criminal code — and demonstrate the Bush Administration’s continued disregard for international standards of conduct and for checks and balances. President Bush must act and ensure that American detention policies are in line with international law and American values.

An open letter

14 May

To those of you who have offered support, love, and assistance, no words can ever express how much that means to lasarina and I. There was a time not too very long ago when I was convinced that no one would ever accept us and our love. To those of you who have chosen not to judge us, I offer my sincerest gratitude and love.

To those of you (and you know who you are) who have judged us and found us lacking in some way, I have finally come to the realization that I have lost nothing in losing you and your companionship.

Sometimes quoting Jesus and the Bible is appropriate, even for us Pagans. Judge not, that ye be not judged. Matthew 7:1

Join the call for Rumsfeld to resign…

12 May

The images of abuse in a U.S. run Iraqi prison couldn’t be more disturbing.

Disturbing too is that Donald Rumsfeld and the Department of Defense knew about this and didn’t take immediate action and didn’t even inform the leaders in Congress. John Kerry has called for Donald Rumsfeld to resign — and the Kerry Campaign is asking us to show support for his decision by endorsing his statement here:

I did — and you should too.

Edit: Updated to public status.
