Fun with Computers

31 May

So, just got through installing a new Windows version on the old Pentium II we keep around for internet access, and not much else. Would you believe it’s possible to install Windows XP on a 1.2GB drive? Well it is. Of course, you can’t install anything else on that drive.

The computer decided it wouldn’t boot anymore. Probably boot sector corruption. In any case, I formatted the drive, and installed XP, and all is good again.

Did you know that you can get your voter registration form online?

27 May

Go here to register.

I freely admit that I am voting against Bush this next election, rather than for anyone else, for a great many reasons. His bigotry regarding gay marriage, his stance on abortion rights, his actions in the undeclared wars in the Middle East, and his clear commitment to the creation of a theocracy in the United States. Individually, any one of these would be enough for me. Taken collectively, Bush must go.

If you feel like I do, then register and vote John Kerry. Don’t vote third party this time. The need to be rid of Bush is too great.

If you don’t agree with me, register anyway, and vote your conscience. That’s what our system is about, at least until we lose it to theocracy.

Texas Unitarian Church update

26 May

AUSTIN – Reversing an earlier decision, state Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn said Monday that a Unitarian church in Denison on the Texas-Oklahoma border will get tax-exempt status…

Strayhorn reverses herself on church’s tax status

Of course, she chose to blame the original decision on her “staff”.

Strayhorn’s spokesman Mark Sanders said Strayhorn directed her staff to review the decision after questions were raised. “She asked her general counsel to look into the matter, and he overruled earlier staff decisions,” Sanders said.
