Short update

9 Feb

We are still waiting confirmation, but it appears she may be fighting sepsis again. Fever over 104, heart rate high, sleeping pretty much all day. Pneumonia got her down here to the ICU, but it’s the sepsis that will keep her.

Barbara update

9 Feb

She slept about 5 hours. Woke up fairly agitated, but is settling down now, and getting evening medications. Hopefully she can sleep through until morning.

ICU is open except for 6-8 (am and pm). Visitors may not have cots though. I’ve been cat-napping upright intermittently.

She has pneumonia. She is stable and resting as comfortably as can be expected.

So much for that plan

5 Feb

I think next time I just won’t tell anyone until after the surgery is over. It’s been postponed again.

ETA: No new date yet. No explanation for why. Just an ephemeral “sometime next week” for the transfer over to the hospital where the surgery is to take place.

Monday 8-Feb – Surgery day for Barbara

5 Feb

Assuming we don’t have something else interfere in the next 3 days (crossing everything, knocking on wood, etc.) the surgery will be Monday morning 8-Feb. This is it folks. If there is ever a time to turn it on, it’s now. Thank you in advance!

The autism-vaccine lie that won’t die – Salon.com – http://bit.ly/atlmR3

This week, Dr. Andrew Wakefield’s now infamous study linking the MMR vaccine to autism was finally retracted by the prestigious Lancet medical journal. The move came days after medical officials in the United Kingdom found the doctor guilty of multiple ethics violations. For doctors, this is a victory — but a bittersweet one. […]

Somewhat unsurprisingly, this unethical man is now in Texas, and still peddling this long discredited nonsense. I wish I could be surprised by that.

Writer’s Block: Unfriended, Unspecified!

28 Jan

Yes.

No.

Yes.

To avoid unfriending drama, DW went with “reading page” rather than friend’s page. I subscribe to someone’s journal, or they subscribe to mine. If you look at my LJ profile, I even say

I consider the LJ “Friends” tag as a status of reader subscription. If you want to read what I write, friend me. I may return the favor, and I may not. Whether I do or not means nothing in specific to you.

Good news

lasarina is returning to the LTAC tomorrow. That means she is stable enough that they can’t keep her in this hospital. The surgeon has agreed to move forward. Her new surgery date is 8-Feb-2010.

Found out why I was wrong about the antibiotics

27 Jan

lasarina was diagnosed with strep in her PICC line. So the plan to change the antibiotics changed with the new data. She’s comfortable enough right now. The surgeon has been really put off by this, so energies toward that would be very welcome.
