I woke up feeling quite nervous today. My final check box for my upcoming surgery was cardiac clearance. That appointment was this afternoon. The last hurdle to be overcome.
Short and sweet, I am cleared. Nothing stands between me and that surgery now. Well, that is, assuming that IV fluids shortage doesn’t bite me. The surgeon’s office hasn’t contacted me about that, so I trust they aren’t concerned with it. It’s a major hospital system. They probably have a larger stockpile of supplies than the run of the mill small hospital.
That means that come 31-Oct, I will be undergoing gender affirming surgery. On the Witches’ New Year. I won’t know the exact time of the surgery until sometime the day before. Recovery will be, per surgeon recommendation, three to four days of bed rest. After that, no heavy lifting for four to six weeks.
And the other good news? I am also cleared to stop taking the diuretic after surgery. I never really needed it from a cardiac viewpoint. It was always just a part of my gender affirming hormone therapy. Normally I wouldn’t have even asked, but my cardiac history is just complicated enough to justify asking.
One side effect of that change to medications is very positive. I will likely start to sleep through the night on a regular basis. It’s been years since that happened predictably. I’m definitely looking ahead to that.
The journey continues.
This is nothing but good news. How exciting! Congratulations. This is the dream. 🤗
