A very dear friend emailed me, just before my therapy session today, that his wife had a cardiac arrest and is in ICU in Houston.
It happened while she was visiting family. He’s driving from Arizona to be with her. She’s in induced hypothermia, for at least 24 hours, and unresponsive. That hit pretty much every trigger I have from losing my own wife back in 2010. It’s already been a couple of hours, and I am barely holding it together.
As I am a witch who he respects as such, he ended his message asking me to “please talk to the gods on her behalf.” I said that I would do so, for them both. Health for her, peace for him. This is the very first male friend that I ever told I was transgender. That’s how close a friend he is.
My wife was in ICU for weeks when her colon initially ruptured. She was in a medically induced coma. I know so well what he is going through, and I cannot be there for him.
If there ends up being a funeral, Goddess forbid, I will take the risk, and go to Texas, or Arizona, where ever that funeral occurs. And that in itself is terrifying. Neither of those states is exactly welcoming to transgender people. But I will do it anyway.
The journey continues, if sadly.
Definitely healing for her, and peace for both him and for you, too, Janet.
