And no, I am not talking about some weird BDSM play. Barbara’s infection is getting worse. Her mental state is still severely altered. The doctor believes that she needs tube feeding at this point. We are avoiding TPN at all costs because of the recurrence of sepsis. But in her current mental state, she will likely pull the feeding tube, thus the need for restraint.
She has already been non-compliant with breathing treatments over the weekend, and almost yanked out her IV lines trying to remove oxygen mask. I hate doing this to her, but the next step if this doesn’t work is intubation. She’s running the razor’s edge as it is. She’s not in ICU yet, but make no mistake. This is a high risk situation developing here.
