Law sought on explosive fertilizer

WASHINGTON — Counterterrorism experts and lawmakers from both parties are demanding that Congress pass a law to restrict the sale of a popular fertilizer that was the key component in the Oklahoma City bombing.
“Time is of the essence,” says Rep. Curt Weldon, R-Pa., a member of the House Homeland Security Committee. “This has been a material of choice in terrorist acts.”
Timothy McVeigh killed 168 people in 1995 when he blew up Oklahoma City’s federal building with a 2.4-ton truck bomb made with ammonium nitrate fertilizer.
